ACTIVITIES

Every morning, there is Copic Orthodox mass. Each evening, the compline prayer, a contemplative meditative prayer, is held with readings from the Bible in the different languages of the people present. In accordance with the Coptic liturgical calendar, other prayers and services are also held in the church. In addition to the main church, there are many places for private meditation and quiet time including a meditation hall, a remote mudbrick house, and places in gardens and the farm. 

Anafora has a focus on environmental and organic farming. We produce natural herbal products and we work with permaculture and composting. The programme of Arophana (Anafora spelt backwards) is an ongoing project, with an aim of recycling in a practical and artistic way.

We make our own candles and our hand-painted icons and iota crosses are in high demand. Carpets, accessories, pottery, clothes, soaps, herbs and many other items from our workshops are used in our everyday life, in addition to being available for purchase in the gift shop. 

We bake our own bread from wheat. We enjoy our own olives, oil, jams, mango juice and flowers. We grow a multitude of different crops and we have a variety of animals, which maintain a natural ecosystem and increase our self-sufficiency. 

Our library contains a large selection of books in many different languages.
